An electromagnetic lock, magnetic lock, or maglock consists of an electromagnet mounted to a fixed surface and a corresponding armature plate mounted to the moving door or gate. When power is applied, the electromagnet generates a magnetic field that securely holds the armature plate against the lock body. When power is removed, the magnetic bond releases instantly, allowing access.
