The ABLOY EL561 DIN Solenoid Lock is a handle-controlled solenoid operated lockcase designed for use on solid doors where electronic access control is required from both sides of the door. It provides a professional locking solution for applications where both the inside and outside handles need to be controlled by an access control or remote-control system.

Designed for medium traffic doors, the EL561 can be configured for fail-locked or fail-unlocked operation. In fail-locked mode, the handles can operate the lock when power is applied and remain locked when power is removed. In fail-unlocked mode, the electrical operation is reversed.

Both handles are electrically controlled, making the EL561 suitable for read-in / read-out access control applications where users require authorised access from either side of the door. Mechanical opening by cylinder or thumb-turn remains possible where suitable hardware is fitted.

The EL561 is commonly used on internal doors in offices, storage rooms, maintenance rooms, commercial buildings, healthcare premises, educational facilities and other controlled access areas.

Abloy EL561 Product information

Please refer to the ABLOY product datasheet and installation instructions before ordering or installing the EL561 DIN Solenoid Lock.

The lock model, backset, operating voltage, fail-locked or fail-unlocked function, cylinder, thumbturn, handle furniture, monitoring requirements and fire door certification should all be checked before installation.

Because both handles are electrically controlled, ABLOY states that the EL561 is not suitable for certified exit doors. Where free egress or certified escape operation is required, a suitable alternative lock and complete door hardware arrangement should be selected.

The ABLOY EL561 provides a professional read-in / read-out solenoid lockcase solution for solid doors where access control is required from both sides of the door.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ABLOY EL561 used for?

The ABLOY EL561 is a DIN solenoid operated lockcase used for read-in / read-out access control applications on suitable solid doors.

How does the ABLOY EL561 work?

Both the inside and outside handles are electrically controlled. Access can therefore be controlled from both sides of the door by an access control or remote-control system.

Is the ABLOY EL561 fail-locked or fail-unlocked?

The ABLOY EL561 can be configured as fail-locked or fail-unlocked. In fail-locked mode, the handle can operate the lock when power is applied and remains locked when power is removed. In fail-unlocked mode, the electrical function is reversed.

What is the difference between the ABLOY EL560 and EL561?

The EL560 controls only the outside handle and allows free egress from the inside. The EL561 electrically controls both handles, making it suitable for read-in / read-out access control applications.

Can the ABLOY EL561 be opened mechanically?

Yes. Mechanical opening by compatible cylinder or thumb-turn is possible.

What voltage does the ABLOY EL561 require?

The EL561 operates on 12–24VDC.

The ABLOY EL561 is available in 55mm, 60mm, 65mm, 80mm and 100mm backset versions.

Does the ABLOY EL561 provide monitoring?

Yes. The EL561 provides microswitch monitoring and indications for integration with suitable electronic access control systems.

Is the ABLOY EL561 suitable for fire doors?

The EL561 has fire door approval under EN 14846. Suitability depends on the complete door assembly, certification, installation method and project requirements.

Is the ABLOY EL561 suitable for escape doors?

No. ABLOY states that because both handles are electrically controlled, the EL561 is not suitable for certified exit doors.

Can the ABLOY EL561 be used with door automatics?
